My husbands puppy bit my son, not bad yet how do I make sure it doesnt get infected?

I washed it and put neosporin on it. Its welped up in this perfect little shape of the puppy's mouth on his arm. And again on his hand teeth marks are scraped across it. I threw the puppy outside, not going to chance that happening again. There are only a couple of places where a tooth poked through and made him bleed. How do I keep it from getting infected?

i was bit by a dog last summer and went to the emergency room. it was cleaned with soap and water then a triple antibiotic ointment was put on it then bandaged loosely with gauze. i was told to wash, apply ointment and bandage every morning and night till wound was closed. also i was told NEVER use hydrogen peroxide on any animal bite, the hydrogen peroxide bubbles and can just circulate the bacteria that causes infection instead of cleaning the wound out.

Reply:Neosporn is good but if the spot where your husband dog bit your son starts to turn red or your son starts iching there I suggest you see a docter or pediatrician immediatly!
Reply:keep cleaning it and treating it like you are, also you may want to use some hydrogene peroxide on it to make extra sure. The puppy is a baby too and he is still teething. Just make sure that you are with them if they are in the same room together and get the puppy some toys to chew on.
Reply:better to take your kid to the doctor. also, the puppy will be biting (it's how puppies play), but you can start training him/her now to NOT bite. biting is a big part of play in puppies, so better to start training as soon as possible. good luck!
Reply:Well, first thing, throein the pup outside won't solve anything. You are dealing with a teething puppy who doesn't know any better right now. i suggest you or your hubby spend some time training the pup not to bite by yelling OW everytime he does it, if he does it more, take the neck and bite it yourself, and growl at the same time. Don't bite hard enough to make the pup bleed, just enough that he yelps, this is what the mother would do to the pups if the bit her and it gets the point across quickly. Your son will be ok, you know your pup is healthy. Just keep using the neosporin and it will heal fine.
Reply:Keep washing it using an antibacterial soap and pour peroxide over/inside the area. You can add neosporin after it is clean and dry, but the peroxide will get inside the wound where the other won't. Keep pouring peroxide until it no longer bubbles.
Reply:I'm assuming the puppy has had its rabies shots. If not, get your son to a Dr. right away and have the dog put down and tested.
Reply:By doing what you just did, and maybe dousing the area with peroxide or alcohol. Meanwhile, puppy has to be taught not to bite! In fact, you may want to get rid of the pup since he seems to be a habitual biter.
Reply:Puncture wounds,especially from bites,easily get infected. At the first sign of swelling and redness go to your doctor and get some antibiotics.


Don't blame the dog either.
Reply:Keep Bacitracin (sp?) or any anti-biotic skin cream on it and keep it bandaged until the redness dissappears and then uncover it and let the air get to it.
Reply:1. Get that puppy in some training classes and learn how to control it.





2. Hydrogen Peroxide and neosporin. Keep and eye on it and make sure it doesn't stay tender or start pussing - then you have an infection.





3. Buy the puppy some suitable toys. Ask the trainer for private help on teaching the puppy to chew the toys and not your son.

Reply:Sounds like your treatment is good to go, but rub some whiskey on it for good measure.
Reply:Wash it with warm soapy water and make sure it's dry. Pat, don't rub. Watch for celulitis, (redness, swelling, hot to touch, painful). Neosporin is good. Keep it clean. Puncture wounds are tricky because they travel straight down and carry germs deep in. If in two days no improvement then take him to a doctor.
Reply:be sure to keep the area clean. wash it with an antibacterial soap and water, pat it dry and apply neosporin and cover with a bandaid. You can use peroxide if you like but use it 1/2 peroxide and 1/2 water as full strength peroxide as it can be harsh to the skin. you can apply any triple antibiotic ointment to it. If the area turns bright red, becomes hot to the touch, or you son developes a fever then you need to take him to the doctor. As for the puppy, be sure that every time he bites or chews on anyone that you stick a chew toy in his mouth so that he will learn this is what he is to chew on while teething.
Reply:Treat it like a cut. You already disinfected it, so don't forget the band-aid. And you may want to give your pup some training/chew toys. Nothing to be TOO worried about, but if it looks like your pup is doing this to be threatening, you may want to try that Caesar guy. Heard good things about him. Putting a dog down should only be done as a last resort, so props for you not even considering that option.
