I wouldn't be concerened about Rabies. I would just watch for infection. From what i remember my vet telling me one time was dogs don't get any type of rabies until they are 6 months old because of the mother antibodies in their milk. Please don't worry too much. just clean area good, and watch so it doesn't become red and inflammed :)
Reply:How likely is it that your 6 week old pup has been exposed to rabies? I'd say not likely.

Disinfect the scratch, and your daughter should be fine.

If you'd really like to put your mind at ease, call and get your vet's opinion.
Reply:seems young to have a puppy. i mean 6 weeks. you must have just gotten her a couple days ago...i hope. Anyway if the mother was current on her rabies shots you don't have to worry. The rabies antibodies get passed through the mothers milk to the puppy and they will be fine until they are old enough to recieve thier immunization. Your daughter can't get rabies unless your puppy has rabies and you would realize if something was wrong with your puppy
Reply:I guarantee your puppy doesn't have rabies. But to make you feel better - watch your puppy for the next 10 days. If he acts sick at all (not just the stereotypical rabid drooling), bring him to the vet. If your puppy doesn't have any symptoms of rabies within 10 days, then even if he had it he couldn't have transmitted it. But once again, I guarantee he doesn't have rabies.
Reply:Your daughter will be fine. Keep the scratch cleaned with antiseptic cream.

You didn't mention your daughters age so I am wondering how young she might be. If she is really young it will be good to teach her some ways to play with the pup to keep both your daughter and your pup safe from harm.

I'm really glad you have not over-reacted to the scratch. Puppies will bite and play for many more weeks yet.

Hope you have many many years of fun times with your new pet.
Reply:there is no risk to your daughter, puppies don't get rabies unless they are exposed to it.

any broken skin, when broken with the teeth of a rabid dog will transfer rabies to a human being.

I think the biggest thing you need to worry about is pin worms if your pup hasn't been wormed yet, although your daughter contracting this is pretty rare in the circumstances you describe.

good thing to consider though so get the shots in time and you will be fine.
Reply:I doubt your puppy has rabies, but just to be on the safe side, I would disinfect it with some soap and some warm water. If needed, add some Neosporin and a Band-Aid. Also, as someone else said, if you really want to put your mind at ease ask your veterinarian.
Reply:Sorry, but puppies can't get rabies unless they have been exposed to it. Unless your dog has been around wild animals or diseased, uncared for dogs (shame on people that do that!) there's about a 0% chance that he has it. I doubt that your dog has rabies, and beginning shots protect just as much as the once-a-year rabies shots. The reason you keep going for shots when they're a puppy is for continuing disease resistance that first year. They're still protected just as much.

So, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. As long as you keep up the puppy's shots and take care of him you're fine. Stop worrying, go give the pup a treat, put a Band-Aid on the kid, and go have fun! :)
Reply:Don't worry about it. The puppy is still protected from its mother's rabies shot. I am sure you haven't had the puppy out in area where it would be exposed to animals such as skunks or rats which are notorious for carrying rabies.

It is no wonder the mother dogs want to ween those puppies as soon as possible. Those puppy teeth are just like needles.
