Can HIV or AIDS be transmitted by the puppy?

We have a 5 month old pup who still likes to teeth on people. If the puppy nips and draws a drop of blood from someone with HIV or AIDS, can the pup catch those viruses, then, transmit them by nipping to the rest of us?

Can HIV or AIDS be transmitted by the puppy?
I think that most people (but not all) who have answered you have missed your real question. They are thinking that the dog become HIV positive. Normally I would say they are right. Most animals cannot get HIV (which is fortunate since mosquitoes go from person to person all the time).

HOWEVER, weather is it is possible that for a dog to bite an HIV infected person, draw blood, and then immediately turn and bite another, infecting that person, the answer is YES, it is possible. ANY blood transmission from an HIV infected person CAN cause it to be transmitted to another. If it wasn’t that way then why would the tiny amount of blood left on a Needle, be able to transmit HIV from one drug user to another. However, the longer the blood is exposed to the dog saliva and/or the air, the less likely it becomes, and so I would consider it unlikely.

Therefore, the real question is, do you want to risk it. Proper blood contamination protocol errors on the safe side, so why not do the same. If the HIV person is around, put the dog away.

In addition, another way to look at it is, an HIV infected person doesn’t need to have to worry about a dog bit becoming infected. When they have full-blown AIDS, any littlie infection can kill them. Why not put the dog away so that they won’t hurt the HIV infected person. It is the same basic idea as having any one who is going to hand an infant wash their hands. The child probably won’t get sick either way, but why risk it?

Reply:That's a good question, sorry I can't help though.
Reply:No it can't be transmitted from people to dogs. They have different immune systems so it's not possible.
Reply:That is a very interesting question!. AIDS and HIV have been talked about for years, but they've never mentioned if it can be transfered to an animal (via dog bite, etc). This is something that really should be an interest to Doctors and Scientists.

VERY GOOD QUESTION INDEED!
Reply:No.

HIV will not cross between humans and dogs - or other pets.

Even though this sounds like an accident it I not good to bite someone with HIV or lick an open wound.
Reply:HIV and AIDS can be caught via saliva, and blood. I'd take him to a vet to get checked out!! If this is in regards to your pup...knowing he still teeths on humans, i wouldnt let him near a person that i knew had AIDS or HIV, that person shouldnt get offended if you explain he still teeths on people- which could draw blood-they'd understand! Good luck
Reply:Oh My God people!! You can NOT get AIDS from a dog!! The only possible way to do that would be like JB said, if the dog bites an infected person, then, while the blood is still fresh, bites an unifected person and breaks the skin.

Here is a website to check out, it lists all of the ways HIV/AIDS is transmitted: http://www.avert.org/faq1.htm#q16
