I have a 16 week old Black lab pup, we have 4 others and none of the others were this sensitive. She went to the vet 2 days ago and got some stuff to clean out some parasites and we picked up the whole yard and scrubbed the house from top to bottom and bathe her 2 times a day, so she is safe now but the medicine upsets her belly and she is teething too; this prevents her from sleeping well. I stay up and rock her for hours but I wondered if there are any home remedies that are safe because the vet says just let her tough it out but its breaking my heart. I there anything over the counter I can give her besides ice and puppy tylenol to numb her teeth? Also is there anything I can do for her belly, so maybe she can get some sleep and heal that way. I don't care what it costs just help me get her feeling better. Thanks and god bless you.

Help with a sick Puppy? Upset belly, teething, not sleeping well?
Talk with your vet tomorrow again. Sometimes puppies are soooo full of worms that they block the bowel after they have been killed by the deworming medication... don't take your puppy's pain lightly. She could have a bowel obstruction... do indeed take her again to the vet. That is not normal, I promise
Reply:I have never had the same situation as you are dealing with but I wanted to offer an idea. I was thinking maybe a heating pad for the dog to keep comfortable. I think it is great how sesitive you are to the puppies needs and wish you all the best. good luck to you all and I hope you have a great holiday season
Reply:First off, get some easy to digest food in her belly. Rice cooked in chicken broth (leave it a little soupy), or runny oatmeal works great. This will help coat her stomach. Buffered baby Aspirin or plain old Bayer or St. Joesph's baby aspirin will ease the teething pain. 2 roughly every four hours. (She could take it every two hours is really bad, but not for more than a total of 4-5/day.) The food will ease the pain though. Dog food will only make it worse, think of your own stomach when you are sick. Good luck
Reply:Hi, Andrew,
Poor baby! I know that you can give dogs Pepcid for upset stomach, but check with your vet to make sure that it will not decrease the effectiveness of the medication that you are giving her for the parasites. Maybe some plain yogurt might help since it will coat the stomach.
I have heard that numbing medication can cause dogs to drool and possibly have a hard time swallowing. When I had danes, I used to freeze chicken and beef broth in ice cube trays and give cubes to them. They loved it and the cold helped with the gums, too! Hope this helps her!
