My puppy has an adult tooth that came in right next to her baby tooth. Will the baby tooth fall out or not?

Her adult fang is literally right next to her baby tooth and the gum is swollen right in that area. Will her baby tooth eventually fall out (hopefully soon) or do I need to take her to the vet to get it pulled?

It could go either way. I would give it a few days and if it's still there, call the vet.
Reply:it should come out with no problem. when my cat was getting his adult teeth, same thing happened with the canine coming out behind the baby tooth. it's normal.
Reply:You should give the tooth a couple more days to fall out, about 5. If the tooth doesn't fall out you should take her to the vet, after the 5 days pass, but for now feed her soft foods.
Reply:Yes it should fall out. Be sure to give you puppy chew toys- this can sometimes help the process. Be sure the toy isn't too hard though.
Reply:No it won't - this tooth should have been pulled as soon as you could see the adult tooth coming in.
Reply:Her baby tooth will eventually fall out. But with her gums swelling i would call the vet to get some medicine to take the swelling out of her gums. B/c if that was me i would be in alot of pain.
Reply:What you're refering too is the puppies deciduous teeth (puppy teeth) Usually puppies and kittens have all of their adult teeth by 6 months of age. You will need to take the puppy to the Vet and have it pulled. Puppies and kittens usually need to be spayed/neutered around 6 months of age (about the same time they should have all of their adult teeth) at the time of the spay/neuter (when your pet is already sedated for surgery) is usually when they pull any puppy/kitten teeth that are remaining. If you dont have it pulled, there could be some potential problems (crowding, infection due to debri geeting stuck inbetween puppy/adult teeth due to the crowding). Its really no big deal, your Vet will take care of it so I wouldnt be worried. Its actually pretty common! Good luck!
Reply:This happend to my dog too at that age. It didn't fall out on it's own but when I took him to get nuteured they pulled it for me free of charge. I'd say let the vet deal with it next time you visit if it doesn't fall out on it's own.
Reply:This happened to my puppy when she was 5 months old, and the baby fang fell out about a week or two later.





It is a good idea to have your veterinarian pull any extra teeth when she is spayed.
Reply:It may or may not fall out. You could try and wiggle it a bit to see if it's loosening. Smaller breeds are more likely to have retained deciduous teeth (baby teeth). If they don't eventually fall out they can cause problems with the adult teeth. If you are having your puppy spayed or neutered, the baby teeth can be removed at the same time.
