My son's new puppy is still getting new teeth. She bites everything in sight - ankles, hands, neck, ears, chairs, shoes, EVERYTHING! She is half Siberian Husky, half Brittany Spaniel. Does anyone have any knowledge of what the professional trainers would do to stop her from biting? Thanks!
Puppy biting...?
You don't need a professional trainer....you need assertive behavior. Playbiting is part of puppyhood, and so is teething, and any trainer will tell you that. Your first step is puppy-proofing the home: Keep unchewables out of her reach (shoes, cords, everything) and locked up. Spray furniture with bitter apple to deter chewing on chair legs and the like. Keep a supply of chew toys in and around the home. If she goes after your hand or ankle, give her a stern 'No' and replace the body part with an approved chew toy. Praise her when she chews her toys....discipline her when she chews your appendages. It may also help to give her a bit more exercise. Huskies have energy for miles, and even young pups can benefit from lengthy periods of physical activity. A trainer would be a waste of money when the problem can be easily fixed by asserting your position as the alpha of the home.
Reply:to stop my dogs from biting a firm tap on the nose a firm NO and a toy that they can have to chew, even though it most likely playful biting you do not want to in anyway reward it, be firm give him something he can have and be consistent about it. keep stuff you don't want him chewing up for the items and the dogs safety.
