HELP! Puppy got ahold of garbage!?

My puppy (5 months) got ahold of a garbage bag- and then got ahold of bark (tree bark, which she had gotten ahold of before-threw it away) and sunflower seeds. Anyways, when I saw her, there was a little lump on her cheek. She was behaving strangely (rubbing her cheek against me and touching that area with her paws) so right then I knew SOMETHING was stuck there. I got so worried, I told my mom to take me to the vet, but she told me she wanted to try to take it out first.





When she opened her mouth-I saw that a piece of tree bark got stuck to her teeth and pointed out towards her cheek (making that bump). Well after 20 minutes of trying to get it out, it fell out by itself.


Is there anything else that I should be worried about? I know she probably consumed sunflower shells- could this be harmful? I can't help but worry, like what if it got stuck in her throat? Shes behaving normally, either than the fact that shes breathing faster than usual, (but not panting). Shes sleeping now.

It sounds as though you took care of the problem, but just keep a closer than usual eye on her for the next couple of days. If she seems to have any pain in her cheek or mouth, (she may rub her face on things, salivate excessively etc.) have your veterinarian take a look just in case she got any wood lodged in her cheek tissue as it could set up an infection.





Are you sure she didn't swallow any of the wood? Chances are everything will be fine, but also watch for her having difficulty pooping - straining/panting etc. Puppies swallow all kinds of odd things and occasionally something lodges in the digestive tract and causes problems. That requires veterinary attention right away.

Reply:well, if shes acting normal then i think she might be fine.just watch out in cause she is bleeding alot. then if shes bleeding alot just watch her. ( i have a puppy too she gets into EVEYTHING!!)
Reply:lol ;) little worryer..... my dog is a stupid and eats out of the trash too %26gt;_%26lt;... sunflower seeds are okay .... and breathing faster doesnt mean anything she is just growing up and prob needs more oxygen..... u got nothing to worry about :D
