My puppy keeps biting my elder dog..everything i try she doesnt learn!!?

my new puppy has been with us for about 5 months and she cant keep her teeth off my 12 year old dog. ill hit her and say no, but she still does it and it drives me crazy! My older dog is a pushover in a wayy and doesnt bite back. When she bites him its not no nibble..its a big bite and its worrying me. I know that shes teething but she knows i dont like it, but she still does it. i just need to know how to get her to LEARN that its not good.

HELP!

My puppy keeps biting my elder dog..everything i try she doesnt learn!!?
That's how dogs play with each other. It's totally in the puppy's nature to want to interact with the older dog. It's not your place to set the pecking order amongst the dogs. They'll figure it out for themselves. You certainly shouldn't hit the puppy for trying to play, even if it does look like a bite to you.
Reply:just keep doing what your doing but use a rolled up newspaper and lightly smak on the nose and tell her bad puppy and just continue doing that it should work within a 2-3 week period
Reply:First, you need to establish dominance with your puppy. You can't accomplish this by hitting her. I would go to an obedience class or two. Once she learns how to mind you (correctly!) then you should have no trouble getting her to stop.
Reply:ech. This is a conundrum! It is normal behavior, for sure...however, your puppy isn't going to be harmless much longer. I've seen pups attack senior dogs like this before...for no reason, other than I guess it's a natural instinct in them. I've also seen pups play with senior dogs and there been no problems. It sounds like your older dog doesn't want to participate in these games...so there is definitely a danger there.

Get a watergun and keep it near you...when the juvenille starts nipping at the elder dog, correct it verbally and squirt it with the water. It will definitely leave it alone for a minute. This is a far better correction the physically hitting the dog as it demonstrates to the dog your ability to reach it from across the room.

Make sure your dogs both get quality play time. Do they catch? If so, have them both join in a game of catch, one catches, the other waits, then it's their turn. Encouraging manners and respect while having fun and minding their master is a great way to provide their needed energy outlets. good luck.
Reply:even though she is just a puppy she has shown that she is dominate over your other dog. that is something you should try to interrupt because if your other one isn't doing anything about it, it has accepted that it is the submissive to the pup and if u try to interfere it will only confuse their natural ways. but if it gets to the point that the puppy is hurting the other then it is time to punish but hitting and yelling isnt proper punishment because they dont understand it. but if that is how you want to do it it has to be immediatly after the fact because if not she wont know what shes getting punished ofr.but right now she is just playing and that is how she would play if there were other pups her age around. so wait just a little or find her a play mate.
Reply:my wolfhound puppy does the same thing to my 12 year old dog. I just let them play, he bites his ears and the 12 year old retaliates. the puppy needs to play he is just being playful. find a dog park where he can play with other puppies, I think petco has puppy play dates on wensdays here. check with petco in your area. also keep him entertained. get him one of those balls that you put food in and let him play with that for awhile. I can't think of the name of the ball but it is sold at pet stores. also try taking him for longer walks tire him out so that he is less energetic. and crate him to give the old dog a rest . older dog usually don't do well with puppies, because of this very reason. puppies just want to have fun!
Reply:First off stop hitting your dog, they learn nothing but aggression from that. Second, your older dog is obviously not as bothered by the younger dog as you are so let them work it out. Once the older dog gets tired of the little one bitting on him, he'll let her know. I introduced a 5 month old german shepherd puppy to my 9 year old german shepherd and she let him know when she had enough of his playing. Let them work it out and chill out. And I repeat, stop hitting your dog.
