Puppy question?

my puppy (7 weeks old) is more of a follower

and isnt fond of the leash...how do

yall recommend I should handle the walkin on a leash issue?

Another question:

the lady I got my puppy from

was feeding him hill country fair semimoist food (so its chewable) and i have to cut it in half so he can eat it. well i went to PETCO and bought him some 'premium puppy food' Natural Balance small bites to be exact...I know you have to mix the new food with the old to change but my question is how long should i wait to change it and do you think he'll be able to eat it? I dont want him to choke on it or anything and he has the smallest teeth so he cant really handle dry food...

Puppy question?
wait till he's about 8 weeks to give him the puppy food even then u may have to pour it in water like cereal to teach them how to walk on the leash put the leash in your left hand w/ very little slack (but still some so your not chokin ur pup) and the excess in your right make him walk on your left side and fi pulls of gets ahead of u give the leash a very small tug (increase the tug strength as he gets older) and don't let him bite the leash. do small distances 1st then increase the distance. then put obstacles and people in your path. make sure u always go first no matter what. and stand around and talk to people too it teaches them to sit still. make sure you in corperate other dogs.it is much more effective if u start leash training at 3 months cuz he will understand it more (MAKE SURE U START SLOW and make it fun with lots of praise). wait till he's about 1 1/2--2 years before switching to adult food
Reply:Switch over the food over the course of about 2 weeks.

You can add canned food, or even a bit of water to soften up the kibble to make it a bit easier for him to eat.
Reply:Moisten the food with water and gradually add more and mor of the new food in over a 10 day period until your pup is on the new food exclusively. The leash training will come by repetition. Your pup is going to follow you around and it will take some time for him to get used to the leash. Just be consistant, and please don't ever pull or drag the pup but get him to come along with you by using a high pitched and excited tone and remember to praise him a lot when he does what you ask of him.
Reply:Put your finger in his mouth and let him chew on it , then tell me his puppy teeth won't be able to crunch kibbles.

The leash problem isn't really a problem, the trick is to reward and praise when he does walk with you.
Reply:my pups were huskies and at 7 weeks they were much too young to go on a leash, plus you shouldnt take him out until he's a little older because when theyre that young theyre still at risk of getting diseases and viruses like parvo, and that can be deadly. just wait off a couple more weeks and keep him at home.

what kind of dog is it? i think that if you feel he might choke, get him the smallest size of food possible. you should talk to someone at Petco, I'm sure they can help you pick the best food for your pup. good luck!
Reply:I switched my dog over to his new food in about a week. maybe a little longer. as for the leash, make the leash sound good, and fun. Associate it with going outside. He may want the long leash's, like the ones that he Can go up for 16+ feet.

He may had been abused with the leash previously. give him praise when he is on the leash, and some treats when good on the leash. You may even put it on him and allow him to run all ove rhte house with it.

EDit: Get Solid Gold small bites, they are small. That is if you want to shange food. Or you can brake the kibbles you have in half? if possible.
