Puppy questions?

i just got a nine week old puppy a couple days ago. the prior owners were giving her canned pedigree food in the morning and science diet puppy in the evening along with milk. i know the milk gives her diarrhea. i stopped giving it to her because, well, now she has diarrhea. also, i dont want her to have the canned food anymore, i heard it rots the teeth and eventually all she'll want is the canned. i started giving her little pieces natural choice training bits after she did her thing..

she threw up twice last night. it was a good amount too. and this morning she has diarrhea, although its hardenning now...

i have a vet appoitment on tuesday, should she be ok until then or should i take her asap?

she doesnt look sick. shes playing and chewing on everything like puppies do.

this is my first puppy so all of this scares my quite a bit.

please give me any and all advie you can.

thank you so much.

Puppy questions?
The switching off of the Pedigree and Science diet probably gave her diarrhea as well. Suddenly switching foods like that messes with dogs intestinal tracts, which causes the diahrrea and vomiting. Make sure your pup is getting enough water, because the diahrrea can make her dehydrated. I suggest you pick a high quality dry food and stick to that. No more Pedigree or Science diet and no more changing up her foods. Just one kind of food for every meal. Treats are okay to give her too of course, just not too many. When you first start giving her the new food she will probably still have diahrrea at first while her body gets used to it. For diahrrea you can give her a few tsp of canned pumpkin puree. The pumpkin is high in fiber and it will help firm up her poop. You can mix it in her food or give it to her straight. You can also freeze the extra in a ziplock bag or plastic container to use for later if you need to since the cans are usually very big. If you don't see any result after 24 hours with her poop or vomiting I would take her to the vet. If there is blood in her diahrrea her her to the vet asap. Hopefully your puppy will get through this quickly.
Reply:awwwwww puppies are so cute!
Reply:It's best if you don't change a dog's diet so quickly because their stomachs can't handle it. Mix dry food gradually into the canned and then reduce the canned until what you feed her is the type what you want her to eat.
Reply:Any change in food or even water will upset a pups stomach. Just feed her what the breeder told you to until you see your vet. No milk though. I dont understand that with some breeders. Oh well! Your pup will be fine until Tuesday.

Congrats on your new pup!
Reply:( week old puppies shouldn' need milk any more, but changing her diet can cause diarrhea. If her stool is hardening her stomach is apparently adjusting. Unless she has eaten something poisonous she should be ok. You should puppy proof your home, pick up any electric cords, make sure she can't reach your plants(many are toxic and puppies are like babies, they will chew on anything), remove small things they can swallow, etc.
Reply:congrats!

pretty normal stuff, but if you want a great review of everything "new puppy" check out http://www.thedivadog.com

Fabulous articles on what to expect and training issues
Reply:just dont rush into all the diff foods cause there young bodys cant handle it just stick wit the hard stuff and canned switching gradually
Reply:Change in diet can cause diarrhea even when switching to better quality food (and I agree w/ the canned food being a no no as a regular diet). Stress diarrhea could also be what you are dealing with. If she continues to vomit or starts to vomit up only bile or her poo starts to turn really dark brown/reddish (and stinkier than normal puppy poo), then get her to a vet pronto. There are several things that it could be ranging from what I mentioned before to parvo, corona virus, or various intestinal parasites. If the vomiting/diarrhea ceases/ doesn't worsen then a visit on Tuesday would be be ok.

Until there are none, adopt one.

Please spay/neuter your pet!!
