Are puppies supposed to lose their teeth?

I have a 5 month old mini pinscher and for the past hour or so I noticed she has been acting like she was chewing on something or like something was in her mouth. I checked the roof of her mouth and nothing was stuck up there, and nothing was in her mouth. Now I have her in my lap and she just started that chewing again and a tooth fell out of her mouth. Its flat and theres a little blood on the top of it but it doesnt look like something that could have been chipped off (it looks like the whole tooth came out from what was attached to her gums). She doesnt seem to be in any pain. Are puppies supposed to lose a set of teeth and then get new ones in?

Are puppies supposed to lose their teeth?
don't freak. Those are milk teeth and they fall out then they get big dog teeth. Just like little human kids. Have the puppy put it under its pillow perhaps the tooth fairy will visit.
Reply:Yep. Their gums get sore and they chew on things to help alleviate the discomfort and aide in their new teeth coming in.
Reply:Yes, just like we did when we were young. You will find the new ones to be a little less sharp than their baby teeth.

I still have some baby teeth from my gorgeous dog that passed away, over four years ago and she was 9 when she died!!

Keep them, one day you might look back and remember this.
Reply:yup, just like children lose their baby teeth, so do puppies. this is in fact why she's chewing, its just like when a toddler is teething.
Reply:Aaw..your puppy is growing up. Yes, it's normal. I was so proud when I found my puppies tooth. They will chew, and gnaw, and do what they can to get rid of them and get the new set in. This is my own personal experience anyways. I hope the tooth fairy leaves a nice treat under her pillow! :)
Reply:Yes puppies do lose teeth. Just like humans, puppies have two sets of teeth.
Reply:Just like humans they loose their teeth. It's just like us losing our baby teeth... No biggie just the flow of nature
Reply:Yep baby dogs lose their teeth just like baby people and get new ones. No need to freak out its natural
Reply:Yes puppies lose their baby teeth like we do so don't worry.
Reply:Yes. Several smaller breeds, including min pins, lose their baby teeth. Most of the time you dont even notice! By the time they are about a year old they should have all adult teeth. If for any reason you see what appears to be a '2nd set' of teeth - or a tooth on top of a tooth, you will need to take her in so those baby teeth can be removed. This does not happen often, as most pups will 'chew' their baby teeth out - just as you described, but it is something to watch for!

Congratulations on your little burrower!

EDIT: Once the adult teeth come in, the dog will likely chew LESS, but not necessarily stop chewing. I have one min pin that is 3 years old and has chewed my furniture and all kinds of stuff since her puppy days. I quickly learned to get her a Kong which I keep filled for her all the time (the black Kong because her teeth are so strong) and she chews on that most of the time now. It's definitely not like when she was a pup, but she still chews!
Reply:yes because there set of teeth is just like ours baby teeth then big dog/adult teeth
Reply:Puppies are a lot like kids, they lose their baby teeth too. If your dog is 5 mos old then that is about the right time for her to lose her baby teeth. They will chew on things to help their old teeth come out and their new teeth to come in. Dogs don't seem to suffer with the loss of a tooth the way humans do. I'm not sure why but when they lose their teeth it doesn't take long for a new permanent tooth to grow back in. Don't be too concerned about her loosing her teeth it's a normal natural thing for all dogs, cats and animals including humans.
Reply:yeah, those are her baby teeth.
Reply:they lose their teeth like people do...they lose their baby/puppy teeth and get there permanent teeth a little later
Reply:my puppy did lost any teeth but when they grow up, they will eventually lose some teeth. But you will not notice them cause owners doesnt have that much time to check the dog's teeth everyday. I recommend that you take ur dog to the vet as soon as possible because losing teeth may be a bad cause.
Reply:yes happens all the time and to cats and dogs. They do lose there teeth just like we do. and they will grow them back. They only get one more set of teeth and that it.dont worry so much they are fine and it does not hurt much.it hurts like it hurts us.
Reply:Of course puppies lose their first teeth! They are just like human children.
Reply:Yes, puppies normally lose thier teeth around 4-6 months. Then he will have his adult teeth. Most of the time they swallow the teeth or lose them and you cannot find them, cause they are so small. It doesn't hurt them at all. She chews cause she is trying to get it out. Totally normal she will be fine! Just so you know she will lose all of her teeth, but again you probably won't notice most of them.
Reply:Yes. Puppies lose teeth just like human children do. Your puppy will lose the puppy teeth and then adult teeth come in. Its always good to allow your dog to chew. It helps clean the dog's teeth. So, give your dog lots of bones and chew toys even as an adult.
Reply:Yes, just like human babies they will start losing their baby teeth.
Reply:i dont think puppies should be loosing their teeth.

why dont you take her to the vet, he will be able to tell what is going on.
