Best Puppy Food To Start Off With..?
right now, the puppy should still be having either mom's milk or a replacement puppy milk. at about 4 weeks, you can switch to the second stage replacement formula.

as for when the puppy is a little older, around 6-8 weeks, you can pick out a dry food (continue to put either the milk or second stage formula on it for a couple of weeks). no brand is right for every dog...but basically, in any pet food, you do NOT want to see:

corn (any kind)

wheat (any kind)

soy (any kind)

animal by products

beef

unidentified things ( "poultry fat", "meat meal" - they can be ANYTHING)

brewers rice

peanut hulls

white rice (will most likely be listed as just 'rice')

BHA (cancerous preservative)

BHT ( same as above)

Ethoxyquin (same as above)

artificial colors

propylene glycol (ingredient in antifreeze that kills)

sugar (avoid sugar, corn syrup, high fructose, etc)

enjoy your new puppy!!
Reply:I would let them nurse for another couple weeks. Then I reccomend starting them on Canidae all life stages kibble soaked in puppy milk replacer.
Reply:I used purina puppy chow. The kind coated with milk.
Reply:They need to nurse until they are 6-7 weeks or until mom weans them herself. So far as what to feed after, talk to your vet.
Reply:HARD FOOD HIGH IN PROTEIN , SOAK IT IN WATER SO IT TURNS TO MUSH
Reply:Right now the puppy really needs to be still nursing. For at least 6 to 8 weeks. I use Exclusive chicken and rice puppy fomula. It is a dry food that is in very small balls. I would let in soak in a bit of water untill the dog has more teeth. Then switch it over and feed the food dry. Some people on here fuss about Exclusive. But, I will always feed it. My vet recomended it and it litteraly saved my puppy's life! I am a dog lover and am telling you it IS the best. Try it you will love it.

CONGRATULATIONS on the new pup!!!
Reply:This is what I'd do. Right now, they still need to be nursing off mom. But at 4 weeks old, I might start introducing a high quality kibble soaked in puppy milk (or use a food grinder with a little puppy milk) to make it soft and mushy. At about 5 to 6 weeks old, I'd offer them dry at all times along with mushy a couple times a day. The pups will enjoy teething on the kibble and may start eating a little.

I'd recommend a high quality kibble. The best at PetsMart is Blue Buffalo, at Petco, Solid Gold and Natural Balance. Other foods like Timberwolf, Merrick, and Innova are also really good. Stay away from Puppy Chow, Science Diet and other low end foods that have by-products and corn in it. The puppies need good quality proteins that are easy to digest.
