The best puppy food for my large breed?

Can anyone recommend what would be the ideal puppy food for my growing 8 week old Rottweiler? I would like something that would help with his bones, teeth, vision and something that would keep him healthy. Something that would keep his coat looking nice would be a plus. Also, the price ranges of these foods would be helpful.

As of right now I've been feeding him Purina Puppy Chow after a friend referred me to it. Will this suffice until he's old enough to move onto adult food?

The best puppy food for my large breed?
I would suggest Chicken Soup For the Dog Lovers Soul Large breed puppy food for the first year, then switch to adult food at that point. It has everything your puppy needs, and none of the crap he doesn't. It also comes in both dry and canned.
Reply:Purina isn't sufficient for anything at all.. Cept maybe filling the landfill sites... It's a garbage food just like the Iams, and Eukanuba, Science Diet, Kibbles N Bits, Pedigree, Beneful, Ol Roy etc..

You don't need puppy food. You should check out something like the Canidae, it's good for puppies and adults.. www.canidae.com/
Reply:Stay away from brands like Purina, Eukanuba, Iams and all that junk. Its like feeding your dog mcdonalds and does NOT have good nutritional value.

Look into Canidae All Life Stages:

Those are some of the BEST foods you can get. Purina Puppy Chow wont do anything for the things you are looking for in a dog food.
Reply:Your usually safe with any name-brand puppy food. I have a 13 week-old Belgian Tervuren and I'm feeding her Eukanuba. I like Eukanuba because it's well-balanced, and what I really like is that is has fish for DHA and fatty acids. These help a developing puppy's brain A LOT. Just to be safe I add just a little fish oil to her breakfast. Then, generally around 18 months you switch your puppy onto adult food. Good Luck!
Reply:Canidae.

No wheat corn or soy (empty fillers, not a natural food for a dog and can cause food allergies) It is for all life stages and he will not have to switch onto anything else.

Runs just under a dollar a pound if you buy the 40# bags, but you feed less because it is premium nutrition, also they poop less because there are no empty fillers.

Here is a website that helps you rate dog food; notice that nothing from the grocery store is on there...

Reply:large breed puppy chow
Reply:I fed both my doberman and presa canario Nutro Lamb %26amp; Rice formula for puppies. It comes in the weird Green colored bag. You can get this food from Petsmart or Petco. It's worked very well and a lot of my friends have switched to Nutro. Also since Dobies have delicate stomachs you want to find a great quality food and stick to it. I still feed him Nutro large breed lamb and rice mixed with the puppy version to Nutro to this day!!!! His growth rate was great and his coat is beautiful

I'm not an expert but I have read various articles citing the dangers in feeding your dog "all natural" homemade types of dog food.

In regards to your puppy food I believe you should make a switch to a premium brand ASAP. NOw is when your puppy demands higher nutrients/fats in his dog food (that is why customarily puppy food costs more than the adult food). I would recommend that you give Nutro a try. It's a little bit costy but you will not have any complaints.

Furthermore, the better the quality food the less clean up for us humans!!! And that's always a plus especially with the horse of a dog that we have!!!!!
Reply:Ah, you will get so many answers your best bet will be to investigate all that appeal to you. I recommend what I feed and what I distribute. Flint River Ranch go to www.frrco.com/122135. Never a recall, they test for melamine and other harmful contaminants every 15 minutes. No fillers, No dead animals from rendering plants, no chemicals, no preservatives. Flint River is full of antioxidents and nutrious ingredients. All of the ingredients are made here by certified and inspected USDA private suppliers. Flint River doesn't piggy back on other suppliers for the best price. This is part of why the other companies had a massive recall. All of Flint River's ingredients are human grade and made by General Mills, the same company that makes our cereal, that means General Mills will not ever allow NON human grade ingredients in their plant. Flint River contains No corn, No gluten, no worries. Flint River Ranch is recognized by holistic veterinarians. Flint River Ranch is one of the only pet food companies that exceed the certifications required by the FDA. They make a great product for all stages of your dog or cats life. I feed Flint River to all of our 14 rescue dogs and 25 cats. I have a success story on all of my animals, less shedding, no more gooey runny eyes in my yorkie, shiney coats like you can't imagine. Pink healthy gums and lots of energy. My barn cats don't even vomit anymore. Flint River is twice baked making the food more digestible than it's competitors who steam their food. More digestible means less of a potential for bloating and in big dogs this is a concern. I have an a dog who used to vomit undigested food several hours after he ate. We tried everything at the store. This dog just couldn't digest his food, he checked out medically. Since he has been on Flint River he has not vomited in several months he looks so much better. I no longer worry about him bloating either. I have to say that all of our dogs and cats eyes are so bright. I think Flint River Ranch Pet Food is the single best thing I have ever done for my pets and rescue pets. I have been rescuing and feeding animals for over 30 years and I have never been more impressed with any other pet food. I am digusted at the most of the other pet food companies for allowing inocent animals to die for no reason. These pet food companies are just in for the money. Menu foods knew there was a problem, animals died while testing their food and they still allowed the contaminated food to be put on the shelves for unsuspecting buyers like you and me. I sure wouldn't give them the satisfaction of purchasing anything that was part of the recall or the mislabeling law suit, then they will never change anything. I can tell you that Purina, Eukanuba, Iams, all are being sued for mislabeling as are almost every brand available in the stores. You can Google that for yourself. All of those products plus anything at all that you buy in a store is usually crap, including Blue Buffalo, they were recalled too. These foods are full of by-products, which is the dead, diseased and dieing animals from the rendering plants. That means when dogs and cats die at a vet clinic they are sent to a processor. Then they are ground up and sold to the pet food companies. Nobody checks for what medication was recently given to the dogs or cats that died, or to see what diseases these animals had or why they died, they just grind them all up to sell to the pet food companies so they in turn can call them by-products and put them in our pet food. Most or all contain corn which is terrible. Chicken Soup as suggested above was recalled. Innova I am not sure about. I was told recently that it is made by Natural Choice or Nutra or Nutro. PLEASE don't feed Natural Choice or Nutro or Nutra. Animals are dying left and right on these products and they have not yet recalled them. Don't take my word for it read for yourself; Go to "Hubpages.com" and in the search space type in Natural Choice, Nutra or Nutro and read the horror stories of people losing their pets to their dry food. I have to say I have heard good things about Canidai. Canidai and Flint River are priced the same but Flint River is delivered to your door from the company and all of Flint River prices include shipping. If you want any free samples you will have to email me. Otherwise please check out the website. You can order off of the website or just visit it and read some really interesting facts about pet food. www.frrco.com/122135. It took me a long time to chose a pet food that is healthy and that I trust. I have learned so much about pet food during this recall I now feel terrible that in the past I have fed such crap to my beloved pets for so many years. I think that this law suit is a great thing for pet lovers maybe it will force true labeling on the pet food so that these companies can stop decieving us. Sorry this was so long but I am really passionate when it comes to my animals and thier health.
Reply:I recommend Purina or Eukanuba. I used to breed Labs, and I fed my dogs Eukanuba. Prices vary between stores. Go to your local pet store and look to see.
Reply:I used to use Purina Beneful. I did some research and found that for example, with Iams recipe, you feed less because of how the body processes the food.
Reply:Beneful or science diet,my shelter uses science diet
