Normal teething symptoms in 3 week old puppy?

My litter of two will be three weeks old in a matter of days. They had their check ups last week and checked out just fine. Last night, one of them lost 4 ounces and has been whining on and off. He is smacking his tongue against his gums and I feel the raised bumps of his teeth. His brother is not doing the same thing though. The crying puppy is still eating though. Is weight loss and crying a symptom of teething or should I take him back to the vet? The next check up isn't for another few weeks and I don't want to take him for something that is completely normal. Thanks!

I'd phone the vet. I've never heard of a pup losing that much weight (or any weight at all) while teething.
Reply:Why don't you call the vet and tell them whats wrong? They always will tell you to bring them in though. That's probably the best thing to do is take it to the vet.
Reply:Hello Yes that puppy is teething. But I cannot explain the weightloss.
Reply:Call your Vet and reschedule to that week. Make sure that you talk to your Vet about this.
Reply:Yes those probably are normal teething symptoms. The teeth coming in will hurt them so that is why he doing it. The other will probably start doing that soon. Just to be sure, you should call the vet and just quickly ask about it.
Reply:this is completly normal. dont worry. just get him some really nice rags to chew on. he will be really happy and it will take some of the pain away. you could even consider a numbing medicine. he will be fine though.
Reply:A puppy that loses weight is never a good sign. Are you sure this isn't just a mistake, such as weighing him one time on a full tummy and the next time weighing him before he has eaten?
Reply:In all the years I have bred dog I have never had a puppy show any signs of teething at that young age.It is generally uneventful.More signs are seen when they loose their baby teeth at around 4.5 months old.I'd be extremely concerned with weight loss and crying especially if the pup is eating. He should not lose weight at this age..Get the pup back to the vet asap!
